Vancouver Between the Tides

Humans and articulate critters share a rain-soaked waterfront where housing, habitat and gig work meet at the edge of every rising tide.

Ambientazione e lore

A heightened contemporary Vancouver where humans and articulate critters openly share public life, work, transit and civic standing. False Creek's cedar habitat agreements coexist uneasily with glass towers, delivery platforms and redevelopment metrics. Over eight wet autumn weeks, a threatened family lodge reveals that the city's invisible repair work is being performed by residents the formal system treats as interchangeable. The world is grounded rather than magical. Water follows physical rules, structures require materials, evidence has limits and public decisions carry durable costs. Its visual language contrasts warm cedar-and-lantern interiors with cool teal rain, while community gradually carries amber light into the city outside.

Informazioni sul mondo

Civic standing
Articulate critters may hold jobs, contracts and habitat agreements beside human residents.
Waterfront labor
Platform work, mutual aid and formal public services overlap throughout the city.
Autumn weather
Rain, wind and tides intensify through late autumn according to ordinary physical conditions.
First lodge and westward migration
Before Vancouver, seven Cedarbanks lived at First Creek in British Columbia’s Interior: Beava, her husband Papa, her mother Nana, and their four kits Nib, Maple, Chip, and Puddle. Drought narrowed their life; wildfire destroyed their lodge after all seven evacuated. Days later, heavy rain on burned slopes caused a destructive flood. Papa died after saving Puddle and Nana at a collapsing footbridge, while Beava brought the six survivors to higher refuge. After a farewell and an assessment that they could not live at First Creek that season, Nana arranged a welcome through her False Creek contacts and the evacuation team arranged transport west. The family reached Vancouver with a small tool roll, essential supplies, and Papa’s chipped green cup.
Cedarbank family and Papa’s loss
Papa is Beava’s husband and the kits’ father, not Beava’s father. Nana is Beava’s mother. Papa dies in the introduction’s bridge collapse; the evacuation team confirms his death that evening. Seven family members begin the introduction and six arrive in Vancouver. Grief continues into the Vancouver story, Nib does not become a replacement parent, and later romance does not erase Papa.
